Welcome to this online platform for the Cascade Conference on 25 February.
Having an online space to share ideas and questions before the conference was a great success last year and so we're doing it again. This year the focus is on how to make the biggest impact with your newsletters and e-bulletins. If you haven't already done so, book your place.
We shall soon post up a more detailed programme for the day and information about the speakers. Also some questions and resources to get you thinking about what you want to get out of the day. For now you can get a brief overview from our facilitator Marc Osten who posted a video below. The transcript is below the video.
I look forward to seeing you on 25 February.

“Good morning colleagues, Marc Osten here from Summit Collaborative. Sharon has asked me as facilitator for the 2009 conference to review with you the agenda and give you a little bit of a flavour of how the day with go next month.
Sharon is going to continue to post information via email and on this platform so that you can be kept up-to-date about the speakers, the programme and materials as well as logistics.
So the way we are going to start our day is with a fun interactive game. We’ll break into teams and we’ll be thinking about this content, but from a fun perspective. And we’ll dive in and get started on the day that way.
After we’ve done that, each of the four speakers are going to present just for five minutes on the topic they are covering and this way you will get a good sense of where you want to go during the day, what sessions you’d like to attend.
Following that we’ll have two different blocks where we have the workshops running and it’ll be set up in such a way that you can move between workshops if you like. And with those two blocks it may help you to really get to all four of the content areas if you want.
During the workshops we want to make sure that we are not only looking at the strategic issues but the very practical, tactical issues around how to do this work more effectively.
So we really want you to bring in examples of your newsletters. We want you to bring the list of things that you struggle with relating to evaluation. If you have a survey you’ve done of constituents about your newsletter and its effectiveness – bring that into the room.
We are really interested in having these workshops address your specific needs and we’ll probably be able to do that – so take some time to do that. We’ll probably engage you a little bit before the conference to gather some ideas to make sure that we pinpoint our learning and teaching on those areas.
We’ll close the day by looking at what we can do with the learning that we shared in the room and how can we share that out effectively with the larger Cascade network. And what are the opportunities for taking that learning and making it more available over to you over time as you need to continue your work to improve you communications work with you stakeholders.”
